Date Posted October 23, 2019 Category Executive-Academic Vice President and Provost Employment Type Full-time Application Deadline Open until filled New Mexico State University (NMSU) seeks an experienced educator to serve as Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives to develop and drive an online and digital education strategy to ensure the university meets the needs of both traditional and lifelong learners wherever they are whether learning is delivered on one of its five campuses through evolving hybrid-learning modalities; fully online through New Mexico State University Online (NMSUO); at one of NMSU's 12 research and science centers, at its 33 extension offices located through the State of New Mexico, or at its Albuquerque Learning Center. The Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives will be responsible for the leadership, administrative oversight, and coordination of all aspects of online and digital education initiatives occurring throughout the NMSU System, including all campuses, thereby playing an integral role in shaping NMSU's future achieving strategic goals set out in NMSU LEADS 2025 (**************** which fosters both student success and social mobility, and extension and outreach. Working in close partnership with system leadership, the Vice Provost will drive the development of new digital learning initiatives; guide a growing portfolio of online programs, their marketing, delivery, evaluation, assessment and accreditation; oversee the infrastructure and processes to support their success, including finding new ways to better capitalize on NMSU's extension and outreach network; and assist with the development of the business models upon which these initiatives operate. Successful strategies will address how best to deploy online and digital education to support distance degree programs; seek to enhance the experience of campus-based undergraduate, graduate, and professional students through digital tools and materials; and serve the needs of learners at all stages of their lives and careers. A key component of this work will include strategizing with academic units to assist them in reaching new markets including industry partnerships, working adults, active and retired military personnel, and other post-traditional students, both domestically and internationally with an emphasis on Mexico, where NMSU enjoys many relationships and commitments to institutional collaboration. Directly reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives will oversee the integration of technology into traditional face-to-face programs; NMSUO (***************); Instructional Innovation and Quality -- consisting of Instructional Media Services, Academic Technology, Distance Education and the Online Course Improvement Program (*****************); and the Albuquerque Learning Center (************). The Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives will maximize student enrollment and retention by serving as a changemaker who ensures NMSU provides innovative educational experiences that enhance the university's reputation, visibility, and reach, while growing new resources to further strengthen the NMSU system. The Vice Provost will be a strategic and innovative thinker, and a creative and energetic leader of both people and programs. Responsibilities Working full time, the Vice Provost for Digital Learning Initiatives: - Develops an overarching vision and strategies for growing existing online and distance education initiatives, and drives the development of new programs that offer substantive value for industry partners, and global and post-traditional learners. - Provides direction to NMSU's distance education policies and procedures that ensures quality online education and meeting of accreditation standards. - Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, and evaluates the leadership of directly reporting units. - Creates and administers a digital learning environment that fosters a culture of student success and social mobility by thinking of online and hybrid-learning modalities as primarily pedagogical choices and student retention strategies to be infused throughout the entire curriculum, and not as ancillary to it. - Promotes NMSU's online programs, both in the State of New Mexico and beyond, by developing and implementing strategic marketing plan(s). - In collaboration with the Student Success division, leads the recruitment efforts and identifies online educational opportunities to partner with non-traditional students, military/veterans, working professionals, and international students. - Coordinates with the leadership of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to ensure the effective operation of the technology components for Online and Digital Learning Initiatives and recommends technological improvements and purchases for inclusion in current and future distance learning plans - Coordinates with VP for Student Success, the Dean of Graduate Studies; Community College Presidents; Deans, Associate Deans, Department Heads and faculty of the academic units; to ensure successful outcomes of Digital Learning Initiatives enrollment targets, and education program delivery. - Ensures compliance of the instructional components of distance education with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED), and other accrediting agencies. - Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations, including but not limited to, State Authorization procedures. - Reviews, develops, and administers NMSU's relevant governing policies and procedures as appropriate. - Develops plans for continuous improvement of the colleges' and campuses' digital learning initiatives to maintain and increase the success of online programs. - Ensures sound fiscal management of NMSUO and other reporting units. - Represents Digital Learning Initiatives at administrative and executive-level meetings. Qualifications NMSU seeks a leader with significant and successful relevant prior experience, including experience in building, implementing, marketing and/or managing an online education enterprise. A successful applicant will have at least five years of progressive administrative and/or supervisory experience in instructional technology and/or distance learning with increasing levels of responsibility. Teaching experience in online delivery is required; experience serving as a faculty member and designing and delivering online courses and/or programs, especially at a doctorate-grating university, is highly preferred. Experience in negotiating strategic partnerships and business agreements in online program management is also preferred. Command of Spanish language and exposure to Hispanic and Latin culture is highly desirable. A minimum of a master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required; a doctoral degree is preferred.
